Our Project
- In a phased construction sequence, ThirdWall first built the dormitory building for Wat Thai monks and religious leaders on the site of their temple building. Equipped with commercial kitchen and dining area, living spaces, and community rooms for study, meditation and worship, the three-story residence also includes
space for office, meeting, and social purposes. Demolition of old residences and completion of site improvements followed. - The wood-framed structure, clad in a brick-and-stucco exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS), has a shingle roof and individually operable windows. A pediment porch entry is crowned with a symbolic Thai circle emblem.
Why ThirdWall?
- ThirdWall came recommended by a civil engineer having a longstanding relationship with the firm.
- Interviews and presentations gave Owner representatives a sense of ThirdWall’s partnering values, community involvement, and commitment to environmental concerns.
- As General Contractor, ThirdWall was trusted to manage construction activities of all trades while ensuring continuation of Temple functions.
Challenges and Results
- Given the broad interest of Wat Thai community members in the project, it was a challenge for the building committee to make timely decisions when questions arose.
- County inspection issues arose with several design elements of the project, while Phase 2 permits for demolition of the old residence building took longer than expected.
- Despite the challenges, site safety and protection of the work in progress were maintained so that community ceremonies and celebrations could continue during construction.
