Somerset Pool

Somerset Pool

Our Project
  • A new community asset for the Town of Somerset required demolition and new construction of the town’s community center, including a new kiddie wading pool and pool deck with built-in stone grill area and a wrought iron fencing around the entire pool complex. Scope also included extensive hardscape and water retention facilities and replacement of pool pumping systems.
  • ThirdWall was selected as the best-value general contractor and assisted the owner with constructability advice, cost options and community relations.
  • Multiple awards were bestowed on this outstanding project:
    • ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors) Excellence in Construction
    • AIA (American Institute of Architects) Design Award, Potomac Valley Chapter
    • Wood Design Award from the North American Awards Program, celebrated by Wood Design & Building magazine.
Why ThirdWall?
  • Recommended to the client by the construction manager, ThirdWall was seen as the right-size contractor with the best understanding of the project and professional management skills.
  • Although there were other competitive offers, ThirdWall’s offer was perceived as the most complete and responsive, demonstrating sensitivity to environmental and community concerns.
  • ThirdWall was awarded a subsequent contract on the renovation of the Somerset Town Hall, based on positive performance on this project.
Challenges and Results
  • Environmental preservation and conservation were critical elements of the project.
    • To preserve forest trees in close proximity of planned construction, compressed air tunneling techniques were utilized to avoid damage to existing root systems for underground utility line installations.
    • A limited-capacity bridge over a neighboring stream was reinforced without impacting existing vegetation and flowing streams or causing erosion issues. This was a necessary precedent for stabilizing an aging structure and increasing load capacity for construction operations.
