SUPPORT A STAR!

ENGAGE, EXCHANGE, ENRICH!

Our new vison TO ENGAGE IN THE PRESENT THROUGH THE CLASSICS is guided by the three above principles.

As we move forward with these three key values we rely on support from many areas: government, foundations, corporations and you, the audience – the reason we do what we do. Without you there is no exchange, no engagement and yes no enrichment. Chances are you had the opportunity to engage in our latest production: Top Girls, by Caryl Churchill. This production embodied everything we are working towards in our new mandate and so we asked three stars from the show to tell us which of these values means the most to them and why.

ENGAGE: Kristina Watt (Isabella Bird & Joyce)

“I feel that when an audience and a piece of theatre meet and the event begins, both parties enter into an unspoken agreement, a sort of pledge or ‘complicite’…The life onstage engages the audience, and likewise, the audience feeds, responds and engages the performers and this euphoric cycle does not cease until the lights go down.”

EXCHANGE: Margo MacDonald (Marlene)

“The art of live theatre cannot exist without the audience. Just as the audience receives the characters, story and journey of the play from the actors, the actors receive energy, support and emotion from the audience. Therefore, on any given night, each member of the audience is part of my performance and my performance every night is subtly altered by what the audience gives me.”

ENRICH: Mary Ellis (Pope Joan & Louise)

“My years of working as an actor have shown me over and over again that theatre continually enriches the lives of those touched by it - both the audience and the artists. Theatre, like all the arts, inspires us, challenges us, has the power to change our lives and simply makes our lives better”

With this in mind we ask you now to “Support a Star” and support Third Wall by choosing one of our stars and pledging your financial gift to their “cause”. In return you will not only receive the usual tax-deductible receipt but also an autographed picture of your star in action during Top Girls. By supporting these phenomenal artists you are also supporting Third Wall and in turn supporting the vibrancy of Ottawa itself. You can be a part of Third Wall for as low as eight dollars per month or one hundred dollars per year. And if you get your donation in to us before the end of the year, your tax receipt will apply to your 2007 return!

If you are the sort of person who gets listened to at work, talk to your boss about sponsoring Third Wall. If you're the sort of person who is the boss, set an example by showing your employees how important it is to give back to the community, and promote your business at the same time.

Of course, we understand that money is not the only way that you can help. If you can't send a cheque, you can also help by donating props, costumes, lumber or even your time. We may not be able to use all your old lamps, but if you've got any period furniture or clothing that you'd like to get rid of, get in touch with us, and hopfully we can take it off your hands.
